    Hired Law firm 2021-2022
Poor poor very poor and unethical lawyer...was clear from the start that his interest were not for the client that hired mr nelson but for the interest of the prosecution..."Unique" is what he called this case...As if he went looking to be hired by the client he had never met before...this was no O.J simpson case i assure you, no not that unique....but unique enough for the interest of the prosecution to be put before the clients interest which was hoping to get the best outcome....

From your comments it appears you were hoping for an unrealistic outcome for your brother. Your disappointment in the outcome doesn’t make anything about our representation unethical. Unfortunately, receipt of multiple pound shipments of "ice" methamphetamine accompanied by delivery to undercover officers left us with only mitigation arguments at sentencing. The firearm seized was an additional obstacle. Nevertheless, we managed to obtain a sentence significantly below the government’s recommendation. The sentencing in this matter was highly contested. We filed a very lengthy sentencing memorandum and conducted a lengthy hearing wherein we successfully argued that various enhancements did not apply. We were able to convince the court to reduce the sentence by 9.5 years below the advisory guideline range. In the federal system here in Iowa this was a good outcome compared to what it otherwise would have been.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
