Overview

Scott Gyllenborg is a distinguished attorney with a career spanning decades in the legal profession. He currently serves as President of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA), representing 5,000 members across a nine-county region. Scott is also a past president of the Johnson County Bar Association (JCBA), which includes 1,700 members.

Throughout his career, Scott has held numerous leadership roles, including serving eleven terms as Chairman of the Criminal Law Section of the JCBA and as a board member of the Johnson County Bar Foundation. He is past President of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation. Scott has also chaired the Herbert W. Walton Annual Bench/Bar Conference and served as Chairman of the Kansas Bar Association Annual Meeting/Joint Judicial Conference in 2012.

Scott is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Bar Association (ABA), the Kansas Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, and KCMBA. He is also a Master of the Inn of the Earl E. O'Connor American Inn of Court, where he has served as a director. Additionally, Scott is qualified by the United States District Court for the District of Kansas to represent accused persons under the federal Criminal Justice Act.

Scott is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. Recognized for his expertise, Scott has been selected to the Super Lawyers list every year since 2005 in Criminal Defense and DUI/DWI, an honor earned by only 5% of attorneys in Kansas and Missouri.

Scott’s dedication extends to academia. From 2007 to 2013, he taught Trial Advocacy to second and third-year law students at the University of Kansas School of Law. He is also a frequent speaker at continuing legal education (CLE) courses on criminal law and procedure.

Beyond his legal practice, Scott has made significant contributions to his community. He has served as a trustee, strategic planning chair, and alumni leader for The Barstow School in Kansas City, Missouri, his alma mater. Scott has also been involved with the Jayhawks for Higher Education Committee, the Leawood Chamber of Commerce, the Olathe Arts Alliance, and the Olathe Region United Way.

From 1994 to 2001, Scott was the weekly on-air legal analyst for FOX 4 TV in Kansas City, Missouri, beginning with the high-profile O.J. Simpson trial.

Scott resides with his wife and four children in Leawood, Kansas.
