Attorney Information

Overview

Artie is the principal attorney of Elverson White LLC where he represents and advises clients in matters involving federal and state taxation, estate planning, probate and trust administration, probate and trust and estate litigation, wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and tax exempt non-profit organizations.

Mr. White’s tax practice focuses on estate taxation, gift taxation, generation skipping transfer taxation, and federal and state income taxation (individual, corporate, partnership and fiduciary). Mr. White routinely prepares and oversees the filing of United States Estate Tax Returns, and he enjoys representing clients before the IRS, State Departments of Revenue, and federal courts.

He is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the State of South Carolina, the U.S. Tax Court, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

Mr. White graduated from the University of Notre Dame, cum laude, in 2004 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science, and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2009. After law school, he earned his Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida in 2010.

Mr. White began his career at a large law firm in Columbia, South Carolina where he practiced in the areas of real estate, wills, trusts, probate, tax controversy, special needs trust planning, and probate and trust and estate litigation. Mr. White left the large firm to join Todd and Johnson, LLP, a boutique tax and trusts and estates law firm in South Carolina, becoming a partner, prior to moving to the Louisville, Kentucky area. Before “hanging a shingle” and opening Elverson White, he served as an Attorney-Administrative Officer with the Glenview Trust Company, in Louisville, Kentucky, performing trust officer and in-house counsel duties.

Artie has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in the area of Taxation in the 2013, 2015-2018, and 2020-2022 editions of Super Lawyers.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
