Overview
David Barber's practice is devoted to holding people and corporations accountable when they have violated safety rules and harmed people in the community throughout Kentucky. David's experience includes over one-hundred jury trials as a prosecutor and as a private lawyer. David has also successfully resolved thousands of cases for his clients through the pre-lawsuit or claims stage, alternative dispute resolution, mediation, and arbitration.
David's involvement in the profession has also included service in the Kentucky Bar Association (on the Board of Governors and the charitable Kentucky Bar Foundation), the American Bar Association (including chairing the Solo and Small Firm Committee of the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section), the Kentucky Justice Association (presenting programs and writing articles for other attorneys), the Brandeis chapter of the American Inns of Court, and as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The ABF is a global honorary society of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. Membership in the Fellows is limited to 1/3 of one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by their peers and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation.
David has published over forty articles in state and national legal publications on topics including attorney ethics, public service, and representing people harmed by violation of safety rules. In addition to speaking to lawyer groups, David has been invited to speak to community groups and other professional groups such as the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
