Overview

Mason Moore Kessinger has over 30 years of experience in civil matters in federal and state trial and appellate courts in Kentucky. As a former Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Mason represented the United States in a variety of civil matters, including employment, environmental, medical malpractice, personal injury, and wrongful death. Additionally, as a Career Law Clerk to the Honorable Karl S. Forester (U.S. District Court) for over ten years, Mason provided legal analysis to Judge Forester on cases across the federal docket, including criminal and civil matters, and gained important insight to how to be successful in the courts.

In 2015, Mason combined forces with her husband, attorney Benjamin Lee Kessinger, III as a cofounder of Kessinger Law Group, PLLC. For over 10 years, Kessinger Law Group successfully represented individuals and businesses in civil matters across trial and appellate courts throughout Kentucky. Now, as a founding member of Kessinger Benvenuti PLLC, Mason continues to use her experience and expertise to provide aggressive, creative and powerful legal representation to her clients.

Mason is a proud graduate of Center College and the University of Kentucky College of Law. She is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Fayette County Bar Association and a past President of the Federal Bar Association of Kentucky.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
