After graduating from DuPont Manual High School, he attended the University of Louisville, earning degrees in Political Science and History in 2006, and completing a dual J.D./M.A. Political Science degree program through the Brandeis School of Law in 2010. In law school, Brad was a member and editor of the Journal of Law and Education, and an Academic Fellow. Brad has been with Conliffe, Sandmann & Sullivan, starting as a law clerk and later as an associate, since May 2009. Since that time, he has successfully prosecuted and defended civil cases in several areas including:
Construction Litigation:
- Worked with owners of properties and projects ranging from eight-figure commercial, industrial, and recreational facilities, to multi- and single-family residential builds, on everything from contract drafting and negotiation, to in-project consulting and guidance, to advancing claims against contractors, manufacturers and bond sureties for incomplete or defective work, to defending owners against various contractor claims for additional pay.
- Represented general contractors in payment disputes with both owners and subcontractors, and pursued claims against subcontractors and suppliers for improper or untimely performance.
- Represented contractors and subcontractors in filing mechanic’s liens for unpaid work, resolving disputes with owners over change orders and costly inefficiencies, and enforcing contractor rights under the Kentucky Fairness in Construction Act.
Employment Litigation:
- Defended municipal and private entities against claims of discrimination/retaliation based on race, age, disability, and worker’s comp filings, winning summary judgments in multiple cases.
- Participated in successful prosecution of sexual harassment claims, unemployment hearings, wage and hour claims, and employment contract claims, while also representing employers and employees in crafting, enforcing, and/or defending non-compete agreements, non-solicitation agreements, and other post-employment terms and conditions.
Business and Commercial:
- Assisted businesses large and small in start-up consulting and crafting company formation documents, maintaining compliance with filing requirements, and coaching best practices for business governance and recordkeeping.
- Represented businesses, business owners, and business partners in various disputes, ranging from breaches of contract, to illegal inference with business relations, to violation of fiducial obligations between partners, to misappropriation and mismanagement damaging the interests of limited investors and minority partners
- Acted as local counsel for the preparation and filing of mortgages, fixture filings and other land records on behalf of out-of-state and foreign business ventures.
Brad also has experience with several other areas of civil practice, prosecuting securities fraud and suitability claims, litigation associated with partnership, LLC, and non-profit business transitions and dissolutions, UCC issues (warranties, negotiable instruments, letters of credit, and secured transactions),, and insurance coverage disputes (CGL, Builder’s Risk, UM/UIM). He can also help you with basic estate planning, will preparation, and probate administration.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
