Tony Colyer - Louisville, KY

A lifelong Louisvillian, Tony has deep roots in the community. His family tree is scattered throughout the city, with lineage traced to Germantown, the West End, J-town, Middletown, and places in between.

Tony comes from a long line of Union workers and educators.

Tony’s father, a union electrician at Ford Motor Company LAP, retired after nearly 40 years of proud, mutual service with IBEW Local 369 and UAW Local 862. Tony’s maternal grandfather worked at American Synthetic Rubber Company, and was a card-carrying Union member. His maternal grandmother worked at St. Lawrence School (now Notre Dame Academy), and his mother is a retired middle school teacher.

Tony’s mother and father were both raised in Shively, in Louisville’s South End. When Tony was born, they lived between the Iroquois neighborhood and Southland Park, right off Southland Drive. They raised Tony to be a champion of the underdog, which molded his belief that the role of the justice system should protect citizens in times of vulnerability, including victims of personal injury. Tony knows that the function of a good Trial Lawyer is to level the playing field for personal injury victims against the insurance companies.

The oldest of 3 boys, Tony grew up in the Fern Creek/Highview area, in Cedar Creek then Spring Mill neighborhoods, graduating from St. Bernard Elementary School, where he was Class President and Quarterback of the 1996 Toy Bowl team. He was destined to be a Trial Lawyer. In 3rd grade, as part of school assignment he drew a picture of his future self, holding a briefcase with the caption, “I want to be a lawyer when I grow up, so I can help people.”

Tony graduated from St. Xavier High School, where he played basketball and football, and earned “Perfect Attendance” recognition and a KHSAA Football State Championship ring in 1999. As a high school athlete, Tony learned a thing or two about injuries.

After St. X, Tony graduated in 4 years from the University of Kentucky, spending his summers back in Louisville working the assembly line at Ford Motor Company’s Louisville Assembly Plant and washing dishes at Woodhaven County Club. He then graduated from U of L’s Brandeis School of Law in 2008. Tony lived off Hikes Lane, near the Bon Air and Buechel neighborhoods, before marrying Male High School graduate (and another lifelong Louisvillian), Witney Hardwick Colyer. They have 2 daughters and live in the Middletown area. Tony is a proud Girl Dad.

Deeply rooted in the community, Tony has family and friends throughout the entire city of Louisville.

As an attorney, Tony spent several years representing insurance companies’ interests in defending claims.

This experience gives him a unique perspective and strengthens his ability to represent your needs. Since his first job in the industry as a clerk in 2004, Tony has devoted his entire career to civil litigation and focuses on injury victims.

Tony’s experience includes all phases of personal injury litigation, including trial and appeals. He is no stranger to the courtroom. Tony believes the function of a good trial lawyer is quick results minimizing the cost on the client; however, he understands that some cases require litigation and trial. Tony and his team at the Colyer Law Firm have the experience and resources necessary to ensure his clients receive a fair trial where a trial is necessary.

In 2015, Tony founded the Colyer Law Firm, originally located in the historic Kentucky Home Life Building at the corner of 5th Street and Jefferson in Downtown Louisville.

Its mission is to use its experience and resources to provide aggressive representation of injury victims to protect their rights and maximize their compensation under the law.

Tony staunchly believes in giving back to his community, often reminding his team of the great Muhammad Ali quote,

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”

He has been active in his parish, St. Patrick, as well as its sister parish’s school, Nativity Academy at St. Boniface, located on East Liberty Street between Downtown and NuLu. In addition to being a trial lawyer, Tony has been a basketball coach, Athletic Director, Board member and volunteer. His passion for people and community involvement led him to establishing the Fish Fry Guys, and Tony’s patronized dozens of local Fish Frys.

Governor Andy Beshear appointed Tony to the Kentucky Board of Tax Appeals, and designated Tony a Kentucky Colonel. Tony’s peers have elected him to help lead the Kentucky Justice Association as a Board of Governors Member, and selected him as a Super Lawyer® in the area of Personal Injury Law.
