Overview

STEPHEN C. BRAUD was born in Marksville, Louisiana in 1947. He was graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He received a Juris Doctorate degree from the Louisiana State University School of Law in 1978. In 1980, he co-founded the firm of Lobrano, Ballay & Braud, PLC, with Robert L. Lobrano, now Judge Retired, Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal, and Charles J. Ballay. Upon Robert Lobrano's election to the Bench, the firm name was changed to Ballay & Braud, PLC. Mr. Braud served as the Parish Attorney for the Plaquemines Parish Government in which capacity he established an in-house legal office and oversaw a staff of eight employees engaged in insurance defense, port authority matters, zoning, subdivision, permits & licenses, oil & gas landowner issues, sales tax, contract and general municipal law matters. He has appeared before the Louisiana State Mineral Board and the Louisiana Conservation Commission on various oil and gas matters. He has also appeared before the Louisiana Legislature on matters relating to minerals, zoning, elder law and municipal law. He has served on the Board for the Natural Resources Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and he is a charter member of the Governor's Task Force on Elder Law. He also has served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana in oil & gas ownership issues on State lands in Plaquemines Parish.

Mr. Braud is a member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, the Plaquemines Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association - where he served as a Member of the House of Delegates from 1993 to 2008, and the American Bar Association. In addition to his admission to practice in Louisiana, Mr. Braud is admitted before the U.S. District Court, Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. He is a licensed title insurance agent for the national firm of Security Title Guaranty Corp. of Baltimore. Mr. Braud is married, is the father of two children, and the grandfather of five.
