Attorney Information

Overview

Sean Michael Casey, a native of St. Charles Parish, graduated as the valedictorian of Destrehan High School's Class of 1983 before attending Louisiana State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting completing the degree requirements in just three years while making the Dean's list most semesters. Sean attended LSU Law School graduating in 1989 and finishing in the top 20% of his class. While still in law school, Sean was recruited by a large defense firm in New Orleans where, after passing the Bar, he worked on multi-million dollar deals in the firm's commercial transactions section. With a focus on residential and commercial real estate acquisitions and financings, Sean went on to open and operate Louisiana's very first statewide title company that regularly served all 64 parishes, served as a compliance officer and vice president of Louisiana's largest bank holding company, and was the Director of Louisiana Operations for a title company owned in part by a Fortune 500 company.

Sean served on the school boards of Mater Dolorosa School in Independence (3 years) and St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School in Hammond (7 years) and, also, served on the fair committee of Holy Ghost Catholic in Hammond (10 years). Sean proposed and then chaired a Diocesan committee that brought special education classrooms to a handful of Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Baton Rouge after three years of careful planning and preparation.

Sean is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state courts as well as the U.S. District Courts of the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana.

Sean, his wife, Rachel, and their daughter, Madison, have resided in Independence, Louisiana since 2000 when they purchased the farm they still call home. Sean's hobbies include traveling, riding his horses, raising miniature donkeys, snow skiing, golfing, and sharing time with family. From 2018 to early 2022, Sean and Rachel operated a bed & breakfast in Natchez, Mississippi. Sean joined Cashe Coudrain & Bass as an "of counsel" in 2022.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
