Overview
Becky is from Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1999, she graduated from Sam Houston High School as valedictorian and was named the “Calcasieu Parish High School Student of the Year”. She attended Texas A&M University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and graduated with Cum Laude honors.
Upon graduation in 2004, she was selected to be a White House intern in the Office of Presidential Advance. Following this, she worked as the SWLA Regional Representative for U.S. Senator David Vitter.
In 2009, she graduated from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where in addition to her studies, she worked as a lobbying intern at the Louisiana Legislature and as a student attorney advocating for victims of domestic violence.
Following graduation from law school, she worked for a year as a law clerk for Judge Penelope Q. Richard in the 38th Judicial District Court, Cameron, Louisiana.
Since the beginning of her legal practice in 2011, she has consistently practiced family law, successfully litigating complex divorces, community property partitions, highly contested custody cases, and unifying families in both stepparent and private adoptions.
Becky is the only family law attorney in this region of the state appointed to the prestigious Louisiana State Law Institute’s Marriage-Persons Committee, which is the official State of Louisiana advisory law revision commission, law reform, and legal research agency for family law legislation.
Active in the legal community, she has served as President of the SWLA Bar Association, currently serves as Vice President of the SWLA Bar Association’s Family Law Section, is a board member of the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s Southwest Community Partnership Panel, and is a member of the House of Delegates for the Louisiana State Bar Association.
Over the years, Becky has been recognized several times for her excellence as a family law attorney, including but not limited to, being listed in the Family Law “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers, honored as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers, and named to the “Top Lawyers in Acadiana” list by Acadiana Profiles Magazine.
Becky is married to the mayor of Lake Charles, Nic Hunter. Together, they co-own Villa Harlequin restaurant and have two children.
