Verified ClientHired Attorney 2015After coming to the USA and trying to muddle my way through Homeland Security by myself, I was fortunate enough to meet Cynthia. She is efficient, kind, professional and most of all: CARING! Not once did she make me feel like a case or a paycheck. She takes the guesswork out of filing procedures, she is affordable and no question is too small for her to answer. I have referred so many fellow immigrants to her and will forever continue to do so. Don't waste your time trying to do it yourself when there is someone like Cynthia to take care of you! She assisted me with filing the correct paperwork to adjust my status from visitor to spouse of an American, and right now she is helping my with removal of conditions. Next year I will finally be able to do the naturalization and then I can be a citizen. I would never have been able to do this without her amazing knowledge and "go get it" attitude.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2013From the initial phone call with Cynthia I felt cared for, and sensed her compassion for me and my situation. My husband and I hired Cynthia to represent us and our adopted daughter. We had applied for US citizenship for our daughter and she was denied that citizenship. So we hired Cynthia to appeal the case for us. Cynthia worked with us, even though we had already moved out of the New Orleans area, (where my daughter's case had been decided) more than 2500 miles away. I was able to talk to Cynthia on the phone or email with her anytime I had a question or a concern. Cynthia always responded quickly to my questions. When the time arrived for us to see the immigration officer again, Cynthia was right there beside me the whole way...encouraging me and talking to the officer for me. I also appreciated Cynthia quoting us a fee upfront (which seemed very reasonable to me), so there were no surprises along the way. And finally, I felt that Cynthia was very honest with me in what areas she had experience in, and where she felt she might need to consult with another attorney. We would highly recommend Cynthia for anyone who needs immigration legal help. Oh, and of course Cynthia won our appeal for us and our daughter did become a US citizen.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
