Verified ClientHired Attorney 2015Samantha did a great job helping me navigate the intricacies settling the estate of my late partner. Ed's will was a handwritten one and I felt that probating it needed legal help and Samantha did just that in a rather short period of time. I am grateful for her assistance.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2015Samantha helped with a succession, will and POAs regarding my in-laws. She was extremely professional, knowledgeable and client focused. The fees were very reasonable.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2013I started out as Laurens client, but when she moved she had me switch over to Samantha. I was a little weary at first because I had already been through so many lawyers that just treated me as a number and soon as the case became difficult dropped me because they didnt want to deal with the hard work of such a difficult case. I had a very rare case that envolved a husband who kidnapped my son and had him for 3.5 years because he moved every 5 months to keep from getting residency. Lauren(who did great as well) got me in with a judge and Samantha finished the job. She got me joint custody, summers and holidays and the equal right to decisions in his life because I live in Oregon and because my son was taken at such a young age he did not remember me, plus my ex husband has him calling is girlfriend mom. Not 2 days later he ups and moves to Virginia again without letting me know a city, address, or relative that they would be staying with if they didnt have a place. Then shuts his phone off for a week. She basically dropped everything to make sure this got taken care of. When my ex husband heard news of what I was doing in court he called and gave me custody, probably because of how scared he was from knowing I had such a pitbull for a lawyer and I never once felt like she treated me like her paycheck. When she drew the papers up for me she had it done within the week. I went to Virginia to have him and I sign papers. I had them overnighted to her and she even went to a wedding late all to have the papers turned in so I could legally have my son for Mothers Day! I would recommend her to anyone who is having any difficulties with Custody or Divorce. She is so dedicated to her work, I only wish more attorneys were as dedicated as her in doing the right thing.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2014Samantha was and is the best person to represent anyone, she's there for you! Over a year ago I walked into Samantha’s office not knowing what to expect, I had child support issues and thought that it was going to drag out and I would pay a substantial amount of money in attorney fees and that I would have to check in to see how everything was progressing every minute, but I was wrong. She took action, was professional, was on time to court, walked me through the whole process, told me what to expect, and she never said anything she didn't follow through with. I can say a million nice things about Samantha, but the one thing I will say is she truly cares about her clients. After all was said and done, and it was done with no regrets on my part, she sent me a check back for the unused portion of the retainer fee that wasn't used by her firm. I expected to get back nothing from her but a letter stating her services were complete. I would highly recommend Samantha Guard Weidner...

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
