Overview

Andre M. Stolier has amassed an impressive list of professional accomplishments before, during, and after graduating magna cum laude from the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where he also distinguished himself both academically and professionally.

Andre has quickly built an impressive legal career marked by a track record of success in complex litigation, appellate advocacy, and strategic legal counsel.

Joining Smith & Fawer, LLC as a law clerk nearly two years before earning his degree, Andre became a full-time associate representing clients in diverse legal matters across state and federal courts, both within and beyond Louisiana. He has successfully tried and appealed cases to the Louisiana Supreme Court, securing favorable outcomes in areas such as trusts and estates, election law, community property disputes, unconstitutional takings, commercial and contractual disputes and more.

While his appellate work has primarily focused on high-stakes matters before Louisiana state courts, Andre also brings significant experience in federal litigation. He has overseen briefings before federal appellate courts and the United States Supreme Court, and achieved significant victories in securing dismissals of Defend Trade Secrets Act claims in the Southern District of New York and False Claims Act claims in the Southern District of Florida.

Andre’s practice also encompasses alternative dispute resolution, intellectual property, white-collar crime, First Amendment issues, healthcare litigation, and the representation of graduate students and licensed professionals in proceedings before universities and professional boards.

During law school, Andre served as Managing Editor of the Loyola Law Review, was a research assistant to Professor Nikolaos A. Davrados, was a member of the Advocacy Center, and worked as an extern for the Honorable Ivan J. Lemelle of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

His Law Review Comment, “Finding the Fault Lines: An Epistemological Inquiry of the True Meaning of Civil Law ‘Fault,’” was published in the Loyola Law Review after being selected as the top comment of his year.

Before pursuing his legal career, Andre worked extensively in government relations, focusing on political strategy, healthcare policy, regulatory and legislative affairs, and campaign consulting.

He previously served as Political Director and Field Director for Governor John Bel Edwards’ successful first gubernatorial campaign, worked as a lobbyist for the Baton Rouge lobbying firm Southern Strategy Group, and managed government relations for Access Health Louisiana, a non-profit health system dedicated to serving underprivileged communities.

In addition to practicing law, Andre currently serves on the Board of Trustees for CrescentCare, a federally qualified health center, and assists Randall A. Smith in teaching the “White Collar Crime and Business Frauds” seminar at his alma mater.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
