Overview

Oliver Smith, III is a 2004 Cum Laude graduate of Southern University Law Center where he was a Moot Court Board Member. Prior to law school, Mr. Smith earned his B.A. degree from Louisiana State University, where he achieved Dean’s List honors, was a cornerback on the LSU Tigers football team, and earned Academic All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2001.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Smith practiced law with several New Orleans law firms specializing in pharmaceutical litigation and insurance defense before becoming an Assistant District Attorney with the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. As a prosecutor, Mr. Smith gained invaluable experience as a trial lawyer prosecuting hundreds of cases and handling countless judge and jury trials.

Since 2010, Mr. Smith has relentlessly pursued advocacy for injured parties and has operated his successful litigation practice, representing a wide range of clients and coordinating with investigators, government entities, courts, and opposing counsel, as well as negotiating and settling cases prior to litigation before juries and judges.

In addition to maintaining his thriving private practice, Mr. Smith served various roles within the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) from 2011 to 2019. For the last two years, Mr. Smith served as Assistant Director of the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP), and was previously a HANO Compliance Specialist, wherein he focused on interpreting and applying both federal and local statutes to housing matters and worked with HUD OIG as needed to enforce the Code of Federal Regulations.
Mr. Smith has also been active in the legal community as a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 2005, as former Vice President of the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Inc., and as an active member of the New Orleans Bar Association and Foundation.

Mr. Smith resides in New Orleans with his wonderful wife Kevin, a labor law attorney, and their two children.
