Consulted Law firm 1995-1996Worst attorney ever. Don't trust him on child custody matters - he used the courts for 15 years to steal his own son from the child's wonderful mother. He has never practiced co-parenting himself. Don't let him ruin your child's life too.

Hired Law firm 2021My father passed away in mid August. My sister and I “retained” Peter Kammer at the end of August to file for succession, as he talked a great talk prior to receiving the $3,500 retainer. We were obviously going through a difficult time losing our father and feel we were completely taken advantage of. Pete Kammer and his Assistant Rachel threw together a subpar Petition for Probate a month later on 9/22. As my aunt filed for succession before us, because her lawyer acted in a timely manner on her behalf. With that being said, we proceeded to move forward with Pete and Rachel to submit all the claims to my fathers estate for reimbursement (thousands of dollars that came out of our own pockets). We sent him the receipts on 9/29 and have not heard from him since. After about 20 phone calls to his office and 10+ emails asking for a detailed bill of billed hours, no response. I was often told Pete was in the bathroom by the receptionist, which I found completely unprofessional. I was also told early in the afternoon (many times) he had left for the day. I was told he would call back, nope! Finally my husband had to reach out to him 36 days later to get a response and a refund. I couldn’t even get answers to my questions emailed to him. After we retained him, I was told by many people in Shreveport that they have never even heard of him. I am not sure where these positive reviews are coming from, we were never treated like “family”. From our experience, I think they write their own online reviews. All I know is we were completely taken advantage of during a horrible situation and treated unprofessionally. Please take my advice… if you want something done, please use the Miciottos in Shreveport. They were my dads law firm and they did a lot of good work for him! I should have done my research prior to retaining him. We have now lost 3 months of time due to his lack of doing anything! He sent my husband a bizarre response claiming he is mailing back my retainer. I will believes it when I see it! Once again, call the Miciottos.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
