Attorney Information

Overview

Brendan Madden is an Associate at Reinstein, Glackin & Herriott, LLC. He is a lifelong resident of Maryland and attended the University of Maryland for both his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees. After graduating college, Brendan worked for two years as a paralegal at a family law firm in Chevy Chase, Maryland, where he developed an enduring interest and appreciation for the complexities of divorce and custody matters. In law school, Brendan gained early experience in appellate issues as a judicial intern for the Honorable Kevin F. Arthur of the Court of Special Appeals, and is acknowledged for his work on the third edition of Judge Arthur's treatise, "Finality of Judgments and Other Appellate Trigger Issues."

Brendan gained wide-ranging experience as first a law clerk and then a legal fellow in the Office of General Counsel of the University of Maryland Medical System, where he prepared employment and corporate contracts for the System and its 13 hospitals. After law school, Brendan worked at a Baltimore-based civil litigation firm handling medical malpractice and personal injury cases. He eventually shifted his focus towards appellate work, a focus he now brings after returning to his first interest in family law.

Brendan's practice covers all aspects of family law, with a particular emphasis on complicated appellate issues and the careful preparation of retirement orders, including military pensions.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
