Hired Attorney 2020-2021I liked and respected her as a my former lawyer. However, I lost my livelihood through the divorce she handled for me back in 2020. She forced me to signed a document stopping the divorce process in which a division of property was later lost because I didn’t have the funds to pay for a lawyer.

Consulted Attorney 2020Anitha Johnson is neither competent nor couth. As an attorney, grammar skills are extremely critical. To be an attorney with the amount of grammar issues and run on sentences that she has is alarming. She is a very mean spirited character. You know what they say you can take the girl out of SOUTH BALTIMORE but you cannot take the SOUTH BALTIMORE out of the girl. Avoid at all costs.

Hired Attorney 2014-2015Anitha Johnson is neither a capable lawyer nor a good, honest person. My family and I hired her firm to handle a serious medical malpractice case. When our initially assigned lawyer, Rabihah Owens, was not proceeding as we agreed to when we met and was producing documents that appeared to have been written by a middle schooler, we appealed to Anitha Johnson to intervene and get our case back on track. She promised she would. She lied. In follow up conversations, she did nothing other than take an attitude with us, started speaking to us and writing emails to us in a voice that felt entitled, prejudiced and, at times, racist. She told several straight up lies about Owens' work and about what we had agreed to initially. In all, our family paid this woman several thousand dollars. It would have been slightly more productive to set the money on fire. What they produced was a badly written medical complaint which was immediately rejected. This 2 page document took them took 3 months Nothing else. Just a family that felt very, very taken advantage of. Anitha Johnson needed to step in to make sure her lawyers was doing as she said she would. She assured us she would. She chose not to. So she gets this review instead. Avoid Odelugo & Johnson completely.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
