Attorney Information
Overview
Attorney Willow Tervo joined Sheehan, Schiavoni, Jutras & Magliocchetti, LLP in October 2026 after serving as an Assistant District Attorney with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
As a former prosecutor, Attorney Tervo brings extensive trial and courtroom experience to her criminal defense practice. She has served as lead counsel in numerous bench and jury trials and has handled cases involving operating under the influence, domestic violence, assault and battery, restraining-order violations, drug offenses, motor-vehicle offenses, property crimes, and other serious criminal allegations.
Attorney Tervo regularly appeared in court for arraignments, bail and dangerousness hearings, evidentiary hearings, plea negotiations, and contested motions. Her motion practice included litigating motions to dismiss and motions to suppress. She also worked closely with law-enforcement officers, victims, witnesses, and other participants in the criminal justice system while evaluating evidence, preparing testimony, managing discovery, and developing trial strategy.
Her prosecutorial experience gives Attorney Tervo valuable insight into how the Commonwealth investigates, evaluates, and presents criminal cases. She uses that perspective to anticipate arguments, assess evidence and witness testimony, identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case, and develop an effective defense for each client.
Attorney Tervo approaches representation with careful listening, responsiveness, compassion, and thorough preparation. She provides clients with direct and honest advice while advocating forcefully for their rights in and out of the courtroom.
In 2026, Attorney Tervo received the Spotlight Award from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association. The award recognized her trial experience and dedication to public service.
Attorney Tervo has also volunteered extensively with charitable organizations throughout the Merrimack Valley, focusing on programs that address food insecurity and the empowerment of women and children.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
