    Hired Law firm 2018-2019
I never in a million years thought I would be writing a review online for someone. But for Emmanuel I felt like I had no other choice. He destroyed our case and without my wife and I going to several other attorneys to fix all of the mistakes he created. We would have failed our interview. (Confirmed by other attorneys and the interviewer himself) Our case was not a complicated one just a simple green card application. We went with Emmanuel because he was cheap and seemed confident in what he was saying. Little did we know the disaster we were in for.. to sum up everything without making this too long, he told us to lie to immigration about how we met (every other attorney and interviewer told us meeting online is FINE and if we lied we would be in HUGE trouble) he made my wife overstay her visa (Au pier program) by waiting 6 months before filing our paperwork. He refused to give us all of our options, deciding for us what he thought was best without consulting with us first. (We figured out our other options when we talked to several other attorneys costing us a fortune in additional lawyer fees) My wife accidentally submitted a wrong medical document and when she tried to correct it by submitting a correct document, he told us not to and to continue with the incorrect document (which is obviously fraud) we said no.. we want to submit the correct one and he told us if we did we would have to pay him thousands more to complete a waiver (All unnecessary, we told our interviewer everything, without a waiver, and the interviewer said it was perfectly fine). Every single attorney we talked to bawked at how horribly Emmanuel handled our case. Most of them were visibility upset that there was someone in their industry who acted the way he did. We thank God we stuck up for ourselves and said no to what Emmanuel suggested we do. I can easily see why people give in to what he says as he presents everything so confidently! I know he is cheap and that is why people hire him but it is NOT worth it! It has cost us MUCH more double checking his advice and fixing his mistakes. I can’t believe I’m actually writing a review on google but I felt I had to warn others about how Emanuel runs his business. According to his “reviews” he’s the best (which are a little sketchy as 10/17 of the reviewers have written just one or two reviews before and I can PROMISE you this is not the type of man you create a google account for and write a 5 star review.. even if he completed our entire case perfectly, he was miserable to have to deal with, like a bratty teenager “if you don’t like it, fire me” seemed like his favorite response when asking legitimate questions about our case) If my wife wasnt a lawyer in Brazil, dealing with people like him daily, we probably would’ve given him the thousands of dollars he asked for and be thanking him for “fixing” the “issues”with our case!! To be fair.. it MAY just be our case, our simple, easy, straightforward green card application.. and with everyone else he is a great guy who knows all the facts of immigration law, but talking with other attorneys that we had to pay to double check everything he said to us as true (most of the time it either wasn’t anywhere close to being true, the info he gave us was outdated, or what he told us was just one option out of many we could choose from) he doesn’t deserve even the cheap price he charges. You get what you pay for and we fell for the trap! We are hoping others do not make the same mistake.. There are MANY other things Emmanuel did that made other attorneys jaw drop, but I’ve outlined all the major things that would have cost us her green card and at the end of the day the lawyer can be as miserable he wants, that’s fine, as long as he gets the job done, that’s all that really matters. Unfortunately for Emmanuel that is not the case.. had we followed his advice we would be in serious jeopardy of committing serious crimes and my wife would not have her green card.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
