Attorney Information
Overview
Brian is an experienced trial attorney and the Managing Shareholder of the firm. He has successfully litigated numerous cases in federal and state courts involving wrongful termination, discrimination, unequal pay, breach of contract, wage and hour violations, and other civil rights matters. In addition to working with employees, Brian also represents several businesses by handling all of their employment law needs.
In March 2023, Brian obtained a nearly $3 Million verdict in federal court for an employee who was wrongfully terminated for reporting sexual harassment. In 2020, Brian negotiated a $1.46 Million pre-trial settlement on behalf of female college professors who alleged unequal pay and sex discrimination. This was one of the largest reported settlements for a gender discrimination case in the country. As lead trial counsel, Brian has also obtained many other large settlements and judgments for clients ranging from hourly workers to C-Suite level executives.
Many clients hire Brian to handle disputes over non-compete agreements. He is very familiar with how judges interpret these agreements, and frequently challenges the validity of non-competes in court. He also advises clients on all types of employment contracts, including severance agreements, and has drafted and negotiated compensation packages for corporate executives where millions of dollars are at stake.
Before joining Sterling Attorneys, Brian was a Senior Counsel for the City of New York Corporation Counsel’s Office. When he’s not practicing law, he serves his community as an Auxiliary Sergeant with the Birmingham Police Department, and graduated from the Oakland County Reserve Police Academy in 2018.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
