Attorney Information

Overview

Ray M. Toma has been in the real estate and construction industries his entire professional life. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree, in Construction Engineering, at Lawrence Technological University. Ray then went to work as a Project Engineer for the Barton Malow Company, one of the largest construction contractors and project managers in north America. Later, he did design work - as a civil engineer - at BEI Associates in Detroit.

Ray is a licensed residential builder and has bought, sold and developed real estate.

After graduating from the Detroit College of Law, Ray joined a Detroit law firm. His practice focused on construction disputes mainly involving large suppliers. All that experience made it quite natural that, when Ray founded Ray M. Toma, PC in 1995, the firm's focus would be on the specific legal needs of the real estate and construction industries. Indeed, over the years, Ray M. Toma, PC has evolved into one of this region's leading real estate and construction law firms.

Ray practices at all levels of the Michigan judicial system. In addition to his extensive experience with both bench and jury trials, Ray is an accomplished appellate practitioner. In fact, he has argued and won a significant real estate case in the Michigan Supreme Court. He is a certified Civil Mediator and a qualified Case Evaluator in Oakland County's Circuit and District Courts. Ray also practices in the US District Court and Bankruptcy Court. In addition to his conventional litigation experience, Ray has handled numerous alternative dispute resolution proceedings including many matters through the American Arbitration Association.

Ray's extensive experience in problem solving and conflict resolution has made him a sought after counselor in helping shape real estate transactions and construction contracts and relationships.

If you need help with a real estate or construction matter, call or email Ray today. Turn his focused expertise into your competitive marketplace advantage.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
