Attorney Information

Overview

Steven earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Political Science and Economics from Grand Valley State University. During his time there, he served in Student Senate, was President of the GVSU Law Society, and was a senior fellow with the Cook Leadership Academy at the Hauenstein Center. One of his most meaningful experiences was volunteering with the Legal Assistance Center of Kent County, where he saw the practical impact of careful, client-focused legal work. He was also a recipient of the Hilda E. Bretzlaff Foundation Scholarship and the John W. and Virginia M. Reifel Economics Scholarship.

After graduating, Steven worked in construction, an experience that shaped his work ethic and gave him a practical understanding of real property, development, and how projects function outside the classroom. During this time, he earned his real estate salesperson’s license, which he continues to maintain.

Steven attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he received a merit scholarship. While in law school, he gained experience in civil defense litigation, real estate tax matters, and federal tax issues, including work with Crowe LLP and externships with Loyola’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic and the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of General Counsel for the Large Business and International Division. Following law school, Steven began practicing in real estate litigation, handling matters involving easements, condominiums and homeowners associations, zoning and land use disputes, construction and contractor issues, landlord-tenant matters, and other property-related disputes.

Steven aims to listen carefully to client concerns and provide thoughtful, well-prepared representation. He values attention to detail and practical solutions grounded in a clear understanding of the facts.

Steven is an Eagle Scout, an achievement that reflects his commitment to responsibility, service, and follow-through. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, his two dogs, staying active outdoors, and working on hands-on projects at home.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
