Attorney Information

Overview

Jennifer Wu helps businesses and individuals navigate high-stakes civil disputes with a strategic, solutions-focused approach. Before joining Lewis, Reed & Allen, Jennifer honed her litigation skills at a New York City firm, representing companies, public entities, and professionals in complex civil matters across state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution forums. She regularly counsels employers through workforce disputes and EEOC matters, defends contractors and manufacturers against defect claims, and guides clients through land use approvals, tax disputes, and estate administration challenges. Clients describe Jennifer as a pragmatic and responsive advocate who explains complex legal issues clearly and keeps them meaningfully involved in their cases.

Jennifer has earned back-to-back recognition from Super Lawyers - first as a Rising Star, an honor awarded to fewer than 2.5% of attorneys in the New York City area, and most recently as a full Super Lawyer in Michigan - reflecting her sustained excellence in civil litigation.

Jennifer is deeply committed to her community. She previously served on the Board of Directors for Residential Opportunities, Inc., supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across southwest Michigan, and has volunteered with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center and Gryphon Place, which provides crisis intervention and support services to those in need.

A member of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and licensed in Michigan, New York, New Jersey, and Missouri, Jennifer has practiced before state, federal, and appellate courts across all four jurisdictions. Based in Kalamazoo, Jennifer is available to consult with clients and counsel throughout the region.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
