Overview
Attorney Laura Volkmann is a skilled and detail-oriented member of Herbert Machnik Law Firm’s Estate Planning and Administration practice. Laura attended University of Michigan Law School, graduating with honors in 2007. After graduation, she served as Law Clerk to the Hon. J. Richardson Johnson of Kalamazoo County’s 9th Circuit. Laura managed her own law practice for several years before joining Herbert Machnik Law Firm in 2020. Her experience includes estate planning, estate administration, real estate, business formation, and litigation, among other areas of the law. She believes strongly in the value of mediation for resolving disputes efficiently and cost-effectively for clients.
Laura has recently decided to retire from running a small farm with her husband, Rick. They had raised beautiful Icelandic sheep for nearly 20 years in addition to pigs, chicken, geese, and their beloved llama, Ryder. Laura and Rick also participated in several local farmers markets selling meat, handmade soaps, and wool products. Even after deciding to step away from the farm, Laura still dabbles in the fiber arts including spinning, felting, and other crafts when she has the time.
Always looking for ways to be an asset to her community, Laura has served as court-appointed attorney or guardian ad litem for clients in Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties, and as a judge for several student moot court competitions. Laura is also a member of the LGBTQA, Agriculture, and ADR sections of the State Bar of Michigan.
