Overview

Dick’s practice has focused on municipal law from 1962 to present, including representation as general counsel or special counsel to townships, cities, villages, counties and the boards, bodies and agencies of these units of government throughout Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula. His practice has involved extensive litigation of municipal and taxation issues including appearances in Circuit Court, Michigan Court of Appeals, Michigan Supreme Court, Federal District Court, the State Tax Commission and the Michigan Tax Tribunal. During 45 years of practice, Dick has served as lead counsel in the litigation and resolution of many major taxation disputes.

Dick is a member of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Federal Bar Association. Dick served as Commissioner of Michigan State Bar, 1981-83; Chairman, and Representative Assembly 1982-83. He was president of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association 1971-72. Mr. Reed is also a member of the Board of Directors of Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society and The Fellows of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. He was a member of the Attorney Grievance Commission for the State of Michigan, 1987-1993, and was Vice Chairman 1991-1993. Dick was a member of the Board of Directors, Kalamazoo County Legal Aid Bureau 1964-1989.

Dick has authored several articles on ad valorem taxation and related matters.
