    Consulted Attorney 2025
I had a very disappointing experience with Robert M. Yonker. This was regarding a real estate matter, and from the start, it was clear that he had little interest in understanding my situation. It felt as though the firm had assigned him my client lead, and rather than genuinely trying to assist me, he was just ticking off a box by returning my call. I even had to read him the zoning rules, as he didn’t seem interested in diving into the research himself. Instead of taking the time to explore potential solutions, he quickly explained why he couldn't help, giving the impression that he was more focused on ending the conversation than actually offering any real support. I know Robert wasn’t interested because I have been in real estate for 20 years and am familiar with variances, appeals, and processes. His lack of effort and engagement showed that he wasn’t willing to look deeper into the matter, even though I know there are avenues he could have pursued. I would strongly advise proceeding with caution when working with LegalShield, Robert M. Yonker, or Powers Chapman. My experience left me feeling frustrated and unsupported, and I wouldn’t recommend working with them.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
