Overview
More Than 26 Years Of Experience Restoring Driver's Licenses
I established my law practice, Daryl J. Wood and Associates, in 2015 to focus on license restoration and criminal defense work in Michigan. As a sole practitioner with more than 25+ years of experience helping clients preserve their driving privileges and defend against criminal charges, I have both the experience and flexibility to be a powerfully effective advocate for my clients. I don't take cases I know I can't win and will be straightforward with you about the situation you face.
Despite my depth of experience and no-nonsense style, I don't tell my clients what to do. Instead, I provide them with the information and perspective they need about the legal process and the laws in Michigan that will apply in their cases. I help my clients make informed and independent decisions that will serve them best in the long run, whether that involves making a plea deal, interpreting complex statutes, going to trial or pursuing an appeal.
I am a trusted resource to whom other Michigan attorneys turn for clarification about driver's license restoration. I have participated in many Driver's License Appeals Division (DLAD) and circuit court license restoration hearings statewide and have presented to Michigan's Institution of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) and the State Bar of Michigan on the topic of license restoration.
I earned my law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1996. I have also served as both a city councilman and mayor of Keego Harbor, Michigan. Give me a call to learn how I can help you preserve your license or defend against a criminal charge.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
