Overview
A partner with Halberg Criminal Defense, Minnesota's largest and most experienced criminal defense law firm, Doug has practiced for over 20 years exclusively in the area of criminal defense, concentrating on DWI/DUI defense. He has successfully handled hundreds of criminal cases, including assault, theft, sex crimes, drug offenses and homicide throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
After graduating from Antioch College in Ohio, Doug received his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Since 1997 he has regularly attended and instructed at the National College of DUI Defense conducted at Harvard Law School. Doug is one of two Minnesota attorneys to graduate the Borkenstein Course conducted at Indiana University, which teaches the forensics of alcohol testing to law enforcement. He is a certified Intoxilyzer and DataMaster operator and trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.
Doug frequently lectures on DUI/DWI-related topics, both in Minnesota and throught the country. His articles have appeared in Criminal Defense Techniques, Criminal Constitutional Law, the Hennepin Lawyer and in 2008 he wrote the Minnesota DWI Law Handbook, which is currently in its ninth printing. He has also co-authored the Minnesota DUI Survival Guide: A Citizen's Protection Manual.
