Attorney Information

Overview

I have been practicing law for over 25 years exclusively in personal injury litigation. I have successfully represented hundreds of personal injury clients in a wide variety of personal injury claims. My experience includes work on cases ranging from serious motor vehicle accidents to cases involving wrongful death, brain injury, spinal injuries, burns, limb loss, and toxic exposure.

I have successfully tried jury cases to verdict in state district court and worked on appeals, having argued my clients' cases both in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court. I am admitted to practice in both Minnesota State Court and Federal District Court.

I was nominated by my legal peers as a Rising Star of Minnesota in Minnesota Law & Politics magazine. I am an active member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and work as a certified arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association resolving insurance disputes for auto accident claims. I have also served as President of the John E. Simonett Chapter of the American Inns of Court, an organization of judges and lawyers whose purpose is to foster excellence in ethics, civility, and advocacy skills in the legal profession.

I am a 1993 honors graduate of William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. I was an honors graduate from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with undergraduate degrees in English, French, and political science. I also studied internationally at Appleby College in Toronto, Ontario, and at the Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France.

I enjoy spending time with my children hiking and exploring the outdoors. I also enjoy running trails on the north shore of Lake Superior with my dog Wyatt and competing in half-marathons. I consider myself an amateur photographer and love live music.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
