Attorney Information

Overview

Teresa J. Ayling, who is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and Wisconsin, has over 25 years of legal experience, with an emphasis on general civil litigation, employment and labor law, and contract law. She is an MSBA Certified Labor and Employment specialist.

Ms. Ayling has represented a variety of small businesses, providing them with legal advice on employment issues in an effort to prevent legal problems. In addition, she has represented small businesses against which claims have been brought for sex discrimination, sexual harassment, race discrimination, whistleblowing, breach of contract, interference with contractual relations, and other issues.

Ms. Ayling also represents individuals, providing legal advice to employees who have experienced a variety of difficulties on the job, as well as representing employees who have been fired from their jobs. She has represented employees in claims of sex discrimination, race discrimination, national origin discrimination, sexual preference discrimination, disability discrimination, civil rights violations, breach of contract, whistleblowing, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and other related claims. Ms. Ayling represents businesses and individuals in claims involving noncompete agreements, defamation, military leave benefits, and related claims.

Ms. Ayling represents individuals with disability insurance-related claims, such as persons whose long-term disability insurance benefits have been denied. She represents persons with professional licensing issues, including representing nurses before the Board of Nursing and other healthcare professionals before their licensing boards.

Ms. Ayling believes it is important for both individuals and businesses to see an attorney early on for legal advice before the issues become more complex. There are actions businesses and individuals can take to resolve problems within the workplace before they escalate into legal claims or result in discharge from one's job.

Ms. Ayling is listed on the Minnesota Supreme Court's statewide roster of qualified neutrals as an Arbitrator and Mediator, and was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1997, teaching Alternative Dispute Resolution. Ms. Ayling published an article in the Minnesota Mediator entitled "Ten Keys to Successful Mediation" and co-authored an article in the Hennepin Lawyer, "Alternative Dispute Resolution by Apology: Settlement by Saying 'I'm Sorry'."

Ms. Ayling graduated Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, an honorary academic society. She is a former registered nurse having received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Alverno College in 1980.
