Attorney Information
Overview
Todd was born, raised and lives in Minnesota. He’s been married since 1993 to Dana, whom he became friends with when they were just 12 years old. Together they have two adult children, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law and a young grandson. He learned early from his father, the owner of a plumbing company and car wash, the importance of a strong work ethic. From 16 years old through his college years, Todd spent the summers digging plumbing ground runs and cutting pipe on construction projects. He understands how hard many people work for their new vehicles and loves to help them when those new vehicle experiences turn sour. If Todd is not working or spending time with his family, you’ll likely find him on the pickleball court.
Todd focuses his practice in representing consumers with defective vehicles (“lemon law” claims) and serious personal injury claims. After receiving his law degree, he began working for a large Minneapolis law firm representing major auto manufacturers in lemon law and personal injury claims. In 2000, Todd began representing only consumers and injured people. In 2002, he began his own law practice. He has tried many cases to jury verdicts and has argued cases before the Minnesota Supreme Court, the Minnesota Court of Appeals, and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Todd has successfully handled thousands of cases against major auto manufacturers. Although the majority of his cases are lemon law related, Todd also handles a few serious personal injury cases each year. Recently, he successfully represented a young widow and mother of two in a complex construction accident wrongful death case. He also represented a young lineman who suffered a serious traumatic brain injury caused by a third-party while on the job.
Todd has authored articles on consumer protection litigation and has been a guest speaker on consumers’ rights at continuing education courses given by the Minnesota Association of Justice and Lorman Educational Services. Todd was also on the faculty of ProSource Educational Services where he taught lemon law courses. He has repeatedly been a guest speaker on WCCO radio to discuss consumer protection laws. Todd is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas (B.A., 1993) and William Mitchell College of Law (J.D., 1997). He is licensed to practice law in Minnesota state and federal court, Wisconsin state and federal court, and the Eastern District of Michigan federal court. Todd is a member of the Minnesota Association of Justice, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Wisconsin State Bar Association, and The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
