Attorney Information
Overview
Over the last couple of decades, Mary has primarily provided advice to employers on a wide variety of employment issues. After working for small and rather large firms representing employers in all facets of counseling and litigation, she moved in house. Mary joined (and eventually led) the employment law and risk management departments for Regis Corp., a Fortune 1000 company with locations in all 50 states, all Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico. She understands the necessity of being a trusted legal advisor to achieve business objectives while avoiding litigation.
Now, Mary works on both sides of the aisle. On the one hand, she counsels employers on a wide variety of employment issues including avoiding discrimination and harassment and creating a respectful workplace. She also advises on leave issues, including sick and safe time laws, disability and other leave laws, wage and hour compliance (FLSA and state), wage payment laws, reductions in force, disability law and accommodation, background checks, the National Employment Relations Act as it applies to non-unionized work places, whistleblowing, drug and alcohol testing, and drafting, enforcing and defending non-compete, non-disclosure, arbitration and compensation agreements. She also helps businesses stay current and compliant with the ever-changing world of employment law and reviews and revises policies and handbooks.
On employee side, Mary assists employees and executives in addressing workplace concerns through thoughtful and effective communication or an adversarial approach. She assists with requests for accommodation and leave, disability benefits, employment contracts, including non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements, severance negotiations and executive contracts, as well as matters involving nonpayment or underpayment of wages.
In her free time, Mary enjoys hiking, travelling, photography, cooking for and with others, gardening and, especially, baseball.
