Overview

Norma Brenne Henning has extensive experience assisting companies, families, investors, employers and entrepreneurs in facilitating travel and establishing U.S. residency, presence and work authorization for family members, executives and employees. She represents her clients in petitions to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), applications for immigrant and non-immigrant visas before U.S. Consulates worldwide, and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

As a Florida Civil Law Notary with a deep understanding of legal frameworks in code-based jurisdictions, she also assists foreign families, individuals and investors in navigating complex residential real estate investment transactions.

Families look to her to devise ways in which their non-U.S. family members can smoothly visit or permanently join them in the United States while complying with the various requirements of U.S. immigration law. In the business immigration context, she assists her clients in obtaining the proper visas or status to accomplish their business objectives in the most effective way possible primarily focusing on immigrant and non-immigrant visas for Investors (E Visas, EB-5 Green Cards), Intra-company transfers (L Visas and EB-1 Green Cards), and Aliens of Extraordinary Ability (O visas and EB-1 Green Cards). Finally, she assists clients in their final steps of their American journey, their applications for naturalization and citizenship.

She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Troy University in Alabama. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1996, became a Florida Civil Law Notary in 2002 and was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 2022. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Florida and Minnesota Bars, and the Collier County (Florida) Bar Association.

In 2003, she was appointed by the German State Department (Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany) as the Honorary Consul of Germany for Western Florida. In this capacity, she supported the German Consulate General in Miami in diplomatic and administrative matters for 18 years.

Ms. Henning serves as a Board Member and VP of the Minnesota Chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACC-Midwest) and as a Leadership Committee Member of the Florida Chapter of the German American Chamber of the Southern United States (GACC-South) as well as the French American Chamber of Commerce in Minnesota.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
