Overview

At Mortel Law, PLLC, we understand the importance of proper estate planning. From our law office in Oakdale, Minnesota, we help people and families throughout the state prepare for life's changes and challenges. We strive to help our clients craft plans that protect them, their families and their assets.

Beginning with a initial consultation, we get to know our clients and develop an understanding of what is important to them and their concerns as they age. We explain the purpose and advantages of the available estate planning tools, including wills and trusts, and aid people in creating the best plan for their circumstances and needs. It is our goal to give our clients peace of mind that they and their loved ones will be taken care of.

Determined to break the mold of what is traditionally expected, our attorney takes a modern approach and develops innovative solutions to our clients' legal issues. We help clients manage their assets and holdings during their lifetimes and ensure they are transferred to their intended beneficiaries when they pass away. We recognize no one wants to leave behind a burdensome estate for their loved ones to deal with. We explain to our clients how the estate tax laws apply to their situations and keep them in mind as we create and maintain their estate plans.

Our law office accepts credit cards.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
