Overview
"I use thorough preparation and detailed planning to execute the best strategy for each client in every case. With an early background in insurance defense followed by long record of diligent and compassionate representation of injured people, I have the skills and experience to examine all facets of each personal injury matter and then formulate the over-all plan of representation. My goal is to enhance monetary recovery for every client, while providing each client with a sense of justice done and enthusiasm for moving forward with their lives."
Over her decades of legal practice, B.J. has represented clients over a broad range of individuals and corporations; B.J. spent the early years of her legal career representing insurance companies in the defense of personal injury and medical malpractice matters. In joining Montpetit Kranz, PLLC, she has converted a comprehensive understanding of insurance company strategies and tactics into a thorough and successful representation of those who have suffered personal injury from a vehicle collision, slip and fall, malpractice or other accident. In addition, together with her law partner, Bill Kranz, she has successfully represented family members bringing wrongful death claims on behalf of a deceased loved one. Bill and B.J.'s combined years of experience, together with their balanced and detailed approach, has resulted in successful representation of clients at both pre-litigation negotiation and arbitration, and at trial. They are dedicated to generating the best possible outcome for each client. Bill and BJ are proud that the firm's representation of clients in both personal injury and wrongful death cases has resulted in several recent pre-trial settlements exceeding a million dollars.
B.J. is a life-long resident of the south metro suburbs. After attending Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in paralegal studies from Winona State University, and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. During law school, B.J. clerked for the Minnesota State Public Defender's Office and several private practice firms. She also was selected to serve on the William Mitchell Law Review for three consecutive years, as a Writer, Editor, and Executive Editor. Following law school graduation, B.J. clerked for a First Judicial District Court Judge and later clerked for a Minnesota Appellate Court Judge, where she learned courtroom practice and judicial perspective at both the trial and appellate level. Since that time, B.J. has spent most of her time in representing individuals who have suffered personal injury as a result of an auto, work-related or premises accidents--putting forth personalized, effective representation for every client.
When not practicing law, B.J. enjoys reading, traveling, and following the Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Timberwolves

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
