Attorney Information
Overview
Bacilio Mendez II is a Senior Associate practicing out of Breen & Person's Walker and Longville offices in the areas of estate planning, probate, real estate, business/corporate law, and association law. In business/corporate law, he has special interest in business formation, governance, multiple-owner issues, and business succession. Bacilio also enjoys working with clients on their estate plans and helping them tailor a plan to preserve what they have built for the next generation.
Prior to joining Breen & Person, Bacilio was a general litigation attorney at a full-service AmLaw 100 firm. There, he defended global technology, retail, and corporate brands against transportation, premises liability and general liability claims. He also gained valuable insurance defense experience working closely with insurance carrier clients while providing case summary, analysis and valuation memos regarding his case load. A competent civil litigator, he routinely defended organizations in single-plaintiff, class action and B2B litigation arising from data privacy and security incidents, violations of state and federal consumer protection and data privacy laws and breach of contract, among others.
Bacilio is well-versed in settlement negotiations, drafting and defending motions, responding to discovery, and taking and defending party, witness, and expert depositions, while preparing for mediation, arbitration or, if necessary, trial. While generally industry-agnostic, he focused on defending organizations in the manufacturing and distribution, financial services, and retail industry group sectors.
Before his law firm career, Bacilio served as Associate Regional Counsel for the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Special Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), helped found the Blockchain Law for Social Good Center at Golden Gate University (GGU) School of Law, and was the Director of Information and Compliance for a wealth management firm.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
