Having practiced law for more than thirty years, Jim has developed several areas of special emphasis. He has handled hundreds of cases in Chancery Courts across Mississippi, involving practically every legal matter over which those courts have jurisdiction. He has extensive experience in real estate transactions and litigation including adverse possession, conservation easements, confirmation of title, boundary disputes, and easement issues. Jim’s probate practice includes estate planning (wills, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives) administration of estates in Chancery Court, and will contests. Jim represents many clients in family law matters such as divorce, child custody, support, guardianships, and conservatorships. He has also assisted many business owners in the formation and operation of corporations and limited liability companies. Jim has also represented numerous clients in appellate cases before the Mississippi Supreme Court and Mississippi Court of Appeals. He has also served as counsel for utility clients before the Mississippi Public Service Commission and other administrative agencies.

Jim is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and is licensed to practice law in all State and Federal Courts in Mississippi, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Jim has a strong record of community service. He served on the Board of Directors of Canton Academy, where he was President for two years. He has been a member of the Canton Rotary Club for many years and served as President for the 2017-208 term. He has also served on the Board of the Canton, Mississippi Chamber of Commerce, and the Madison County Committees for Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
