    Consulted Law firm 2019-2020
I just want to start with we was appointed a garden aligned Stephanie L. Schutt. We are foster parents of 2 kids and the state was paying for the adoption and we was told we wouldn’t have to put any extra out. Well she charged us an extra $5,000.00 for the case. She never sent a bill and didn’t do anything for the case. All she did was rack up time to charge us she wasn’t supposed to charge. I would not recommend using her at all as she won’t do anything for your case and charge you and then you get a garnishment for your wages and not even know you owed her anything. Don’t trust her for your case at all I can’t say it enough she did nothing for our case and then charging more then she should. If she is on your case don’t use her as my attorney agree she was charging for something that she shouldn’t of been for the case we had. She just wants your money and shouldn’t work for the children’s division as she obviously don’t know how it works and screws you over. So I wanted to give an update. I called and asked for a detailed sheet asking what we are being charged for and they refuse to give us one. So to visit with one kid twice and one one time and spoke with us once your charging $5000.00. That is major price gouging so DO NOT USE THIS PLACE AND ESPECIALLY Stephanie L. Schutt. So please think long and hard before using this place. There just all about getting money.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
