Attorney Information
Overview
Dan Welsh focuses his practice on the representation of the owners and developers of commercial real estate and the resolution of complex business disputes. His work frequently ranges from traditional real estate development and zoning work to handling the diverse legal issues that typically arise in the operation of a mature development. In the event that a development project hits a snag, Dan assists developers in resolving disputes with contractors, vendors, municipalities, and in moving projects to completion. Irrespective of the nature of the dispute, Dan utilizes a direct and practical approach that is designed to maximize the economic result for his clients. As a result, he is trusted by his clients to assist with matters that range from routine day-to-day problem solving to complex, high-stakes, "bet the company" litigation.
Dan is one of the pioneers in representing individuals and businesses with their entry into Missouri's newly created medical marijuana market. Dan helps cannabis startups with all facets of their initiatives, including corporate formation, capitalization, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, pre-application work, location site control, zoning, interfacing with government relations and lobbyists, license application and related services designed to maximize application success. Dan also assists experienced cannabis operators, local governments, lending institutions, vendors, investors, landlords and developers with their entry into Missouri's newly created market.
In addition to his real estate and cannabis related practice, Dan also represents a wide array of entities including tech startups, software developers, lending institutions, bankruptcy trustees, design professionals, sports agents and athletes. Dan is an active participant in the region's ag tech and plant science community, and is a member of the firm’s management committee.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
