Attorney Information

Overview

A member of the Missouri, Illinois, and Montana Bar, John earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Missouri Crosby School of Business. John also holds a diploma from the prestigious Bryce Harlow Institute on Business and Government Affairs from Georgetown University.

In addition to his collegiate studies, John played Division 1 Tennis, served as Sigma Chi Fraternity Rush Chairman, and served as a Student Senator to the University of Missouri student body. During law school, John served on the law school Honor and Ethics Committee, served as a T.A. to Professor Attorney John Swenson in teaching Business Law to undergraduates, and clerked for the Missouri Supreme Court.

Upon graduation from law school, John worked with a nationally recognized personal injury law firm and represented injured railroad workers across the United States pursuant to the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA).

John has practiced law for almost two decades, and in doing so has earned the respect of judges, colleagues, and clients. In 2015, John was named Missouri Lawyers Weekly Up and Coming Attorney, and in 2016, was named a Rising Star by Missouri Kansas Super Lawyers. Only 2.5% of practicing attorneys are selected as Rising Stars. In 2017, John was recognized as a Super Lawyer, and has received the same distinguished honor in 2018 and 2019. Super Lawyers is an exclusive list, recognizing no more than 5% of practicing attorneys in Missouri, and is awarded based on peer recognition.

John is a member of the exclusive Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, due to his numerous sizeable settlements and jury verdicts in obtaining compensation for individuals or families who have sustained serious or catastrophic injuries. In 2015, John obtained the fourteenth highest jury verdict in Missouri in obtaining a $11,500,000.00 judgment on behalf of a man severely injured due to the recklessness of an intoxicated driver. Recently, John obtained financial compensation in reaching a confidential settlement for the family of a man killed in the nationally covered Duck Boat sinking on Table Rock Lake.

In addition to serving individuals and families who have sustained injury and financial loss, John believes that it is important to invest in the community in which he operates. John serves on the Board of Directors for the Soulard School, a charter school located in historic Soulard in the City of St. Louis, that embraces diversity as the cornerstone of education and development. John also invests time and has donated thousands of dollars to the Outreach Center in Hayti, Missouri, that provides a safe and structured environment for children each day after school. John’s endowment provides hundreds of children, grades K-12, with meals, school supplies, and sports and music activities, leagues, and training. John and his staff also adopt numerous families in need over the holiday season through the St. Louis County Adopt a Family program, amongst many other important non-profits that he supports.

John and his wife Laura have three children, Lillyan, Carmody, and John Jr., and are members of St. Gerard Majella Parish. John is the son of the late L.H. “Bud” Wilbers, 1932-2014, who served the country in the Army as a Forward Observer during the Korean War, and who served our community through the practice of law for fifty two (52) years.
