Verified ClientHired Attorney 2006-2023Melissa traveled almost a 100 Miles to defend me in a Lawsuit in Federal Court that lasted for 2 days. I was being sued for $250,000 over a legal dispute. It was Her skill and preparation that Won the case for me, proud to still have Her for a Friend and Attorney.

Hired Attorney 2010-2017This review is a long time coming. Melissa did a phenomenal job for me through my divorce. Not to mention the repeated times that my Ex took me back to court. Melissa, if you read this I thank you wholeheartedly for all you hard work through all of my troubling times. You were the best.

Hired Attorney 2022Horrible, no empathy. Took her retainer and ghosted me for 5 days in a very sensitive situation. Has no empathy for what a mother goes through during a custody case. Spoke to me like she didn’t believe me and was very condescending . When I found another lawyer she only sent a quarter of my money back even though she did minimal work in that time.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
