Attorney Information

Overview

A longtime advocate for clients’ best interests, Dave Chipman helps people protect what matters most to them, whether it’s divorce and estate matters for families, personal injury cases for individuals, or real estate matters.

The bulk of Chipman’s practice is centered around family law, where he helps parties preserve relationships, divide assets, and split custody in the most amicable way possible. He works hard to ensure that a shift in the family dynamic doesn’t impact the futures of his clients and their children.

Chipman’s early practice as an attorney was spent defending insurance companies in car accident cases. He uses this experience now in advocating for car accident and dog bite victims in personal injury matters. In the last few years, he has secured several settlements that have reached over $100,000 for his clients.

Chipman also has an extensive background in appellate practice. He has had appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Nebraska Supreme Court, and the Nebraska Court of Appeals. In the last few years alone, Chipman has appeared 12 times before the Nebraska Supreme Court and has zealously advocated for his clients.

Prior to joining Monzón, Guerra & Chipman, Chipman oversaw more than 50 employees as a federal attorney and spent his early career as an Air Force judge advocate. Through these experiences, he was able to develop a comprehensive understanding of the law as well as the skills of compassion, integrity, and leadership.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
