Attorney Information
Overview
Emily Newcomb Haggstrom was born and raised right here in the heartland in her hometown of Gretna, Nebraska. She graduated from Gretna High School and attended Creighton University, earning Magna Cum Laude honors as a Biology and History major with minors in Science and Medicine in Society and Environmental Science. Emily attended the University of Nebraska College of Law, graduating with distinction in 2022. During law school, she earned multiple CALI Excellence Awards, served two terms as an Executive Editor of the Nebraska Law Review, and published a comment in Volume 101.
Emily’s current practice focuses on representing individuals and families in Nebraska and Iowa who are navigating some of the most challenging moments of their lives. She advocates for clients injured through negligence—including motor-vehicle collisions, premises liability, nursing home and assisted-living negligence, and Nebraska and Iowa workers’ compensation claims—ensuring they receive the support and compensation they deserve.
In addition to her injury and negligence practice, Emily is deeply committed to family law, guiding parents through divorce, custody disputes, and complex parenting-time issues. She believes in providing steady, compassionate counsel during times of significant transition, always centering the well-being of children and the long-term stability of the family.
Family is Emily’s top priority, and she enjoys spending as much meaningful time with her loved ones as possible. When she's not working, Emily enjoys reading anything and everything, touring coffee shops to uncover those best-kept secret spots, attending concerts, and relaxing at home with her husband Thomas and her two cats, Goober and Posty.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.
How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
