Overall staff is very pleasant and professional. James Reisinger was very polite and confident he could help me. He made me feel comfortable not just as a client but a person talking to him about my situation and what he thought was best to handle my situation and got it done. That is very important.

I came to the office as an abused spouse with abused children was told it was an open and shut case. I was given a reduced retainer because they were well aware of my financial situation and 0 monthly payments. I explained the manipulation and financial abuse that I was dealing with. My ex started stalking, harassing, and sending emails directly to my attourney - which she was more than happy to charge me full price for. I gave her all the information she requested in our first meeting and had to resubmit 3 x after that - of which I was charged for. My divorce lasted over a year, with 3 non-accepted restraining orders against my ex (because divorces are messy), multiple calls to have him removed from my property to 911, a baseless contempt charge and court date, plus the daily harassment. She didn't take him to court for contempt and let it all happen. She didn't subpeona anything from him - not even a pay statement for calculating child support because "why would he lie?". She let him set the trial date and didn't start any settlement efforts until 5 days prior to court thus creating a need to work over the weekend while continuously telling me she wasn't prepared for trial (though charged me over $8000 for "trial prep") and that she'd drop me as a client if I didn't agree to what he wanted because I would get nothing if I didn't. He got everything. When I brought in support, her senior partner who was well aware of the mental abuse I'd suffered for decades came in yelling and barking orders and barred him from sitting in on the meeting. The decree was changed after I signed them in her office in front of a notary and she let every deadline for contesting pass and didn't even tell me I had rights to contest. she didn't read any of the orders that ever came back. Best part? I get to pay her over $30,000 to have been left in the wind for a year and was completely screwed over. Thank you for your service! Don't waste your time with these people.

I initially retained the services of this law firm when my ex girlfriend tried to have a restraining order placed against me, in an attempt to block me from seeing my daughter. I was very happy with the lawyer that was assigned to my case, and when my case went to court, the restraining order was completed dismissed. Shortly later, I decided to start the process for getting custody/visitation of my daughter. I again contacted this form for their assistance, and when I asked to use the same attorney who had helped me previously, I was informed that my previous lawyer was in the process of leaving the firm. I was told that I would need to work with another attorney. It was at that point, that I was assigned a much more junior attorney to help me with my custody/visitation case. At that point, I no longer lived in Nebraska, and I had no real way of meeting the attorney in person and really understanding just how junior they were. After a lengthy court battle, I was awarded joint custody of my daughter in 2017, and given visitation throughout the year. However, an experienced lawyer would have quickly reviewed the custody agreement I was being asked to sign (and did ultimately sign), and explained to me that there were no provisions in it once my daughter started school three years later, provisions for the other parent to pay half of the airfare expenses, provisions that the other parent would agree to meet half way if driving was the better choice, etc. Unfortunately, I was encouraged to sign a custody agreement by a junior attorney who did not fully understand how in doing so, I would be forced to return to court to readdress and change most of the agreement three years later. An experienced lawyer would have had a full understanding of the custody agreement, and would have explained and made me realize that because there were so many things left out of the agreement, it would not be in my best interest to sign/agree. Needless to say, everything is done now. I am on my way back to court to start a custody/visitation modification, because the junior attorney I worked with did not have the ability to see and explain the long term implications of the agreement that I signed. This same attorney was also not very responsive to emails, did not explain things very well, etc., and of course, you are charged for every single email. So, when I would respond to him with questions because his email was unclear or did not explain everything, I would continue to be charged for every response he had to send me. I would not recommend this firm to anyone else.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
