    Hired Law firm 2022-2023
I called Liane Wakayama after seeing excellent peer reviews which i later learned are solicited not having noticed all came during a few weeks in June & July’20 which I think it is not right, as a matter of fact a local judge even said she doesn’t believe bar review ratings are accurate because “generally attorneys ask their friends & colleagues to provide the surveys for them” Reviews, real, non solicited reviews are important & after paying roughly $60,000 I feel betrayed having trusted those reviews. On top all are anonymous so it’s impossible to see where the favor of a positive review was reciprocated. The level of trust as it is in lawyers & judges is very low & this only encourages that negative stereotype. After paying Liane $400 for a consultation (which are advertised on her website as free) I retained her only to be delegated to new associate Kate Ludwick who made mistakes & time was wasted as a result for example neglecting to tell me I need to make a demand for an accounting if I wanted one, which stalled things longer. With no money to go elsewhere, having signed my interest in my multi million dollar trusts to Liane for collateral, I hoped Liane would be truthful to her word to “ hold the trustees feet to the fire” but as the hearing we waited months for arrived Liane decided not to come &, instead Kate would. Kate only attended virtually & failed to intervene at the many lies she knew & had proof the trustees lawyer was saying. When she did speak she was quickly shut down once by the judge another by the other attorney. . Months of waiting was all for nothing but to come back all over again months later again to clarify what Kate failed to. Liane promised to attend the next time & fix things & as we got off the phone she said okay, you & Kate get to work on that ( a petition to clarify) To be clear I hired Liane so I’m not sure why I had to work on anything nor why I was doing so much work but that became the norm, Liane left me & new lawyer Kate to “ work on” things. Liane for some reason after talking to the other lawyer who said he could drag it out another year Liane changed completely & wanted me to give his client two things…an approval of an accounting for the last year which Liane had literally just told a judge a few minutes earlier that she had a lot of objections to, & Liane wanted me to give indemnity to the trustees for all her actions in 2022 & 2023, despite literally just saying she was in breech of her fiduciary duties & filing an objection saying she was self dealing & noting tens of millions of dollars in assets were unaccounted for. The trustee has been caught lying & we’re presently in litigation for her, having either lost, embezzled misplaced or otherwise refused to account for tens of millions in assets,. yet Liane for some reason knowing this, & having stated at a hearing that she has a lot of objections to the accounting ..all of a sudden wanted me to approve it? As for the indemnity she suddenly wanted me to give “ just” for the last year but “ not for anything she did the last 12 years” in actuality another attorney told me not to believe that because since my mother only died in 2022, the trustee had no fiduciary duty to me before that so in fact, to give her indemnity for 2022 & 2023 would be to give her complete indemnity. I’m at a loss how an attorney would allow let alone encourage that or not be truthful with me about it. I noticed where I’d left her a review she was upset about that despite never having a single review in her entire career other than during a few weeks period in 2020, all of a sudden three reviews were posted for her in one day last month after I left it which in my opinion is very odd. How bizarre that a law firm that defends those charged with criminal activity dui, & domestic violence want to suppress the rights to leave truthful non tortious reviews.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
