Attorney Information

Overview

I am a graduate of Quinnipiac University School of Law. I was born and raised in a "blue-collar" family--where I learned the values of: Hard-Work, Discipline, Determination and Relentlessness. I value the importance the law and attorneys have in our society. The main reason for my entrance into law school was to practice law for the dual purpose of serving society and hard working people.

In law school I worked in the Quinnipiac University School of Law Tax Clinic where, as a student attorney, I represented and counseled economically disadvantaged clients in resolving their Federal and State tax matters. After the fall semester, I was promoted to the Advanced Tax Clinic where I continued my clinical work.

Once admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 2014, I worked as a Judicial Intern to the Honorable Nesle A. Rodriguez, J.S.C., in New Jersey Superior Court, Family Part in Jersey City. As a Judicial Intern, I reviewed various motions; discerned complex legal issues; drafted written analysis on various divorce matters. I observed the many responsibilities and functions in Judge's Chambers. And most important, I observed courtroom proceedings on a daily basis. I was also a Law Clerk in a boutique litigation firm in Newark, New Jersey--where I worked on various legal practice areas such as: Family Law cases, Federal and State Criminal Law cases, and Personal Injury cases.

With passion and great enthusiasm, I now embark on the journey as owner and solo attorney at The Law Office of Frank J. Materia. I take pride in assisting clients resolve their legal matters, while holding true to my values and legal ethics. Years ago my family immigrated to the United States from Italy; and the mentality that "nothing is given and all must be earned" lives within me. Thank you. I remain,

Yours Very Truly and Respectfully,
Frank J. Materia, Esq.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
