Consulted Law firm 2024I recently became aware of the censure issued by the Supreme Court of New Jersey against attorney Matthew J. Trella, Esq. for multiple violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct. This censure, dated May 16, 2023, specifically addresses serious ethical breaches related to his handling of estate matters. According to the Disciplinary Review Board’s decision, Mr. Trella was found to have committed various professional misconducts, including gross neglect of client matters, a lack of diligence in handling estate cases, and mishandling estate funds. The violations included failure to safeguard property, overcharging clients, and failing to provide necessary written fee agreements. Even more concerning were findings of dishonesty and misrepresentation in dealing with disciplinary authorities. While censure is a serious disciplinary action, it is worth noting that Mr. Trella has been in legal practice for many years. For any potential client, it’s essential to weigh the impact of this censure on his current ability to handle legal matters with integrity. The ethical violations identified are directly related to the very nature of estate law and suggest caution in entrusting him with cases involving sensitive fiduciary responsibilities. Ultimately, clients must make informed decisions, and this censure serves as a warning to anyone considering Mr. Trella for legal representation, especially in estate-related matters. It’s crucial to verify whether any corrective actions have been taken or whether his practice continues to show signs of ethical lapses.

Consulted Law firm 2020The administrative staff are utterly disgusting and rude. I called to discuss an account with them and a young lady named Lei answered and I asked her her last name, she said that's all you need to know. I cannot believe this behavior but what can you expect.

Hired Law firm 2019Worst lawyer ever. Mr. Trella has No Clue what he is doing. Writes himself a check. He is Rude ,Arrogant, and Condescending. He accused my 86 year old father of embezzling money, which then triggered a Heart Attack. I had to go through the paperwork myself, and find where the money was. I did all the work. All I got from him was you aren't getting Paid. Good for you that you did all the work. Please stay away from this JERK.

- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:

Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
