Recently, I was in the process of applying for United States Citizenship when USCIS advised me they would deny my citizenship because my permanent residence was not legal. This was very upsetting and too complicated for me to solve on my own. While looking for a lawyer, I found Edwin R. Rubin's Law Firm, which has 50 years of experience in immigration and naturalization matters. Mr. Rubin is a former President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, which is why I chose him. Mr. Rubin has a very personal style and he communicates with the client very well. It was very easy to contact him. He answered my questions and my emails very quickly. It was extremely unusual for me that every time I called him, he personally answered all my phone calls. I’ve never had this experience with other lawyers. He was very polite, friendly, patient and I felt comfortable right from the beginning. He put me at great ease even though there was a complex legal issue. This was an excellent choice for me because Mr. Rubin guided me through the response to immigration with splendid results! He has great contact with people and he genuinely cares for his clients. I highly recommend him and his firm to all of those seeking the privilege of becoming a United States Citizen!

Mr. Rubin has been working with me for the past 16 years. He went above and beyond and delivered the most professional representation. I admire his composure, work ethic and most of all excellent representation. I can only highly recommend Mr. Rubin.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
