Tara S. Sinha focuses her practice in estate administration, estate planning, and federal and state taxation. In the administration of estates, Tara helps her clients navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives after experiencing the death of a loved one, including dealing with the courts, financial institutions, and managing disputes among family members. Tara also assists her planning clients to achieve effective estate plans that consider effective tax administration, family goals, and management of assets, including retirement accounts and planning.
Tara’s estate and trust administration services include probating Wills, preparation of federal, New Jersey, and New York estate and inheritance tax returns, gift tax returns, effectuating post-mortem planning techniques, and asset transfers, including closely-held business interests. Tara has administered thousands of estates, ranging from relatively modest cases to estates exceeding $100 million. She also has extensive experiencing engaging with federal and state authorities in examinations and audits of federal and state estate, inheritance, and gift tax returns, focusing on issues such as inter-vivos transfers, valuation discounts, generation-skipping transfers, and use of promissory notes.
For her estate planning clients, Tara advises clients regarding the development of estate plans that consider estate and gift taxes, as well as generation-skipping transfer tax, including Wills, inter-vivos and testamentary trusts, special needs trust planning, preservation trusts, Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, and other planning techniques.
Tara has served for many years as a member of the New Jersey State Bar’s Inheritance Tax Committee and is a member of the New Jersey State Bar’s Real Property Trust and Estate Section’s Board of Consultors. She is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and has been published multiple times in the New Jersey Law Journal. She is a frequent lecturer for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, New York City Bar, Practicing Law Institute, and other organizations.
