    Consulted Attorney 2024
Unfortunately, I had dealings with Martin Brodsky. If there was a negative star rating I would be selecting it. I'd strongly recommend thinking twice before using him to represent you. We were the sellers of an estate and the buyers were represented by him. This man dropped the ball on many occasions and simply was unresponsive to several things that needed to be negotiated or agreed on to keep the process moving forward. He would tell us something was urgent simply to get us to scramble to address the issue and then communicate no further on the matter only to move the goal post and expect urgency on some other matter. His tactics became very transparent. He intentionally kept matters "gray". His inability to legally agree on anything became so egregious that we finally sent a termination letter to the buyers. The response was a rejection of termination, and a condescending message to our attorney saying we held up the process for weeks. Why that would. be to our advantage as the seller, beyond me. I had simultaneously hired my attorney and realtor to purchase a second home that closed without a single hiccup so I can confidently say this man is nothing short of incompetent. He lacks intelligence, integrity and takes no accountability for himself. He has excuses for everything, using his paralegal as a scapegoat and claiming to be out of the country/unavailable on multiple occasions. The sad of it is, I'm sure his clients know nothing of his lack of professionalism. No doubt he blamed us throughout the process. The transaction was an absolute nightmare all the way through escrow negotiation and walk through. All parties involved with the sale of our property have said that if he is involved with anything that comes across their desk that they will not accept the client. Now that's saying something. If you're looking for a smooth process this is NOT your guy.

    Hired Attorney 2020
I would not recommend Martin Brodsky to anyone needing an attorney in the home buying process. My experience with Martin was horrible. As an attorney, Martin is incompetent in his duties to represent his clients and their best interest and he lacks the integrity to accept his mistakes and make corrections for his errors. My real estate agent and I had to push to ensure closing date Instead of conveying my concerns, request, and recommendations; Martin spent more time negotiating and arguing with me instead of communicating my concerns to the sellers and their attorney. Martin made it seem like my request would kill the deal. All I was requesting from Martin was that he do his job and represent me and my interest. I wanted Martin to ask the sellers my questions; if the sellers did not want to negotiate at least I asked my questions and we move forward. During one of my phone calls with Martin; we went over what items I wanted to keep in the house and what items the sellers could take with them; Martin did not convey my request to the sellers as we had discussed in our phone call. Going over what I wanted left in the house and what the seller can take away; I told Martin that I was worried if I haggle over little things in the house like the ring doorbell and other items; the bigger issues like the mold and chimney might be harder to get seller credits for. Martin said one will not impact the other. He makes assumptions without knowing the facts for example On another calls with Martin, Martin stated “seller can leave the lawnmower and Bowflex behind and that there was no reference to the security system. I stated yes, I want those items as well as the ring doorbell. However, because Martin used the phrase “can leave” when communicating to the sellers and their attorney; I believe the sellers understood this to mean it was optional. Now he is suggesting I go to small claims court because of his mistakes. I am angry and in disbelief I was represented so poorly and regret taking recommendation to use Martin’s law office for my home purchase. He did not discharge his duties to the best of his abilities nor did he conduct himself with integrity. I do not think Martin will take responsibility for his inept conduct as an attorney but I hope he does something to resolve this matter. I attached photos of the actual items the sellers took from the home that Martin said he would discuss with the sellers. See Bowflex TC200, lawnmower, and ring doorbell.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
